This is by far the biggest cottonmouth we've ever seen! Has anyone seen bigger? If so where at?

+SWAY PAUL hard to believe considering the longest caught on record was just a bit over 6 feet. I'm sure there are bigger ones but not 4 feet bigger lol.

Answer to your question Brave Wilderness.
No, I have seen many cottons, this was a really large specimen. Note that volume and toxicity are two different things along with neuro/hemo proportionality (venoms). Non-the- less, your find was an exceptional specimen, congratulations!
Good work with the tongs by the way.

I have a question, are venomous snakes immune to their own venom? Like, I know if they bite another snake of their kind it will probably hurt them (I think that’s correct ;-;), but if they swallow their own venom somehow... will it affect them?

My philosophy is if you are close enough to identify a snake, you are too darn close. My dad's cattle farm had a good size creek that bordered on one side. I was sitting on the bank fishing one day when I saw what looked part of a limb. As it drifted past, the "limb" front part turned in my direction and opened its mouth and all I saw was white. I think I set a record for jumping on a tractor and getting my rear-end out of there. I came back for my fishing tackle the next day.

I would like to add that if you are driving and do happen to see one of these beautiful creatures on the highway , then as you line your tires up and are just about to roll over it at high speed lightly tap your brakes . This will have a smearing effect on the snake, much like spreading peanut butter on bread. By contrast if you just roll over it you may only hurt it.
