So, there has been this trend of a mirror polished foil ball? Let's take it to the next level by melting the foil first :) Who liked this video??? :-) PressTube OuT !

It's not another level. This is the very lazy and very easy way to do it.
The foil ball thing became popular not because shiny balls are awesome, but because working something like that by hand for so long, and putting in all the effort to do it is satisfying to see all the careful long work evolve into a nice shiny piece of art, and it's inspires discipline and patience.
Pouring molten metal into a ball has been done thousands of times and it's simple. Not new or inspiring... Its not about the ball. It's about the process.

Aluminium is the proper spelling for the group of metals that it is a member of. But some chemist's and such argued that "Aluminum" was easier to say. I guess some areas held out.

Is there a specific reason for using foil other than it melting a little faster? Why not use aluminum cans or even aluminum rod or bar stock to more quickly arrive at the desired volume?

    Dude! Wear gloves!
I'm sure you've read that aluminium exposure through the skin is no big deal, that it's not toxic.
But from the video, the most casual observer would see that you are receiving a MAJOR acute dose of it.
It's getting into your system via your skin:
    1. paracellular
    2. transcellular
    3. active transport
    4. apoeccrine ducts
    5. Endocrine sweat ducts
    6. hair follicles
    7. adsorptive endocytosis
    8. receptor-mediated endocytosis
Your kidneys will do a pretty good job of getting rid of most of it, but you should help them out as much as possible. Drink a lot of water for a couple of days.

Wow. A lot of effort. I'm curious about something. I've polished brass to a mirror finish (by hand) and was told to do it in different directions before and when changing grit for the best/quickest results. It seems to be very smooth. Are all of the grooves out? What I've been wanting to see is the opposite of that. A 360° sphere that is mirrored on the inside. Any idea how this could be accomplished? I think it would require some electroplating techniques. Very tricky, but it sure would be cool.

why not tigweld an aluminum rod to it instead of drilling a hole in it? That way you could just cut off the rod and sand/polish that area too. Now you have a giant hole in it instead.

Hey bra... wear some gloves. The fine aluminum particles will get in your blood stream and give you Alzheimer disease. Worked in a sheet metal shop for 20 years. Ran an aluminum grainer. I wore protective gear other guy did not. He spent 2 year crapping his pants as the disease tore him down. Got it from the aluminum. Just saying.. very good work. Nice finished product.

    • James Anderson
      James Anderson 3 gün önce

+burp Not something you can reverse - Wear protective gear or suffer occupational heavy metal poisoning later - that is a fact - Doubting something does not change physics - Ingestion and exposure to micro particles of any metal like he is producing causes irreparable harm.
