Why THE ORVILLE is BETTER than STAR TREK DISCOVERY

  • Of the two space shows that came out this fall, many Star Trek fans are more excited about the Orville than the JJ Abrams/Breaking Bad style prequel Star Trek Discovery. I certainly feel the Orville takes me back to the days of Picard, Data and co on the bridge.

Discovery just didn’t bring out the big guns on moral and philosophical problems. And was out of place amongst the older series like Tng and Ds9. And I completely agree in your argument, Discovery just feels like a normal dark sci fi show with a fancy trademark.

The Orville is for trekkies. Discovery is for people who enjoy watching CBS destroy a beautiful franchise by COMPLETELY fucking up the Canon. Nothing in discovery makes sense. And now there will be a non Binary human in discovery season 3. Once a show starts pandering it goes broke. Fuck discovery

I think you're giving Braga too much credit. I think Orville's success comes more from the fact that the people involved actually like and respect Star Trek, something which doesn't seem to be the case with STD

I have not watched either Orville or Discovery till this day and being I have only Netflix and DVDs I wanted to wait and see what others say. As of now over the years I have made the decision to never even bother watching Discovery and get some Orville DVDs. I think I am sold on the Orville being I have listened to Seths take on sci-fi as well and where he was going with it. Some other things I would like to say is I see a purge coming of all older shows and movies forcing all of this SJW and feminist propaganda stuff down peoples throats. Sort of like what they have done with history as they try and rewrite it. I am trying to get as much older sci-fi series that I can get my hands on before one day none of it exists. I mean they are about to even make OO7 into a woman and that is just ridiculous. Another thing is being I am a lover of Star Trek from the original to Voyager I can say one of the reasons I always liked it is because it depicts true equality. Though I know about Janeway's true thoughts on things not once did she ever put that crap in Voyager. So I looked at even Voyager as a prime example of equality there was no putting down men or making them into pansies. This is why I had no problem with a female captain because the Star Trek equality was still upheld. I enjoyed a few of Michelle Yeows movies as well but I would never turn on Discovery just for that. Equality is equality it is not what is depicted in today's shows anymore. If you want to be an SJW or man-hating feminist do it on your own time stop trying to cram it down others throats and destroying media that once was actually decent and had some sort of equality in it. Because you may win some but you will lose much more in the end especially with people like me that won"t even buy or even watch that garbage.

I feel like if they make an enterprise e show that it should be more gothic and war like since the federation is building warships and maybe having a lot of epic space battles and even continuing that conspiracy episode from the next generation series. Basically what I’m saying is I want it to be a lot more war like than other Star Trek shows.

Not only the appearance of the Klingon, but there had to be enough genetic similarities to allow procreation.
I just don't think the Klingon in STD is genetically similar enough to allow it, simply on appearance alone, the nose structure is very different, they are lacking hair, and I doubt their melanin genes are similar to humans.

For me, I had to find a way to get netflix to show two subtitles for the new Star Trek. My wife is Korean, so she needs the subtitles set to Korean since the English on a show like this is too fast. But then, the first few minutes were all in Klingon. I couldn't figure out what was going on. And the netflix apps only allow one set of subs to play at a time.
I could only get it to work using some third party browser extension for dual netflix subs and then use another app for displaying windows through my xbox for the TV.

Having just bought the 1st season of the Orville last week(on TRclips after getting sick of waiting for a on demand service to get it here in the UK) and having watched the 1st 6 episodes I got to say The Orville is not a comedy but a drama with some humour scattered around. If you are expecting a live action sci-fi version of Family Guy you will be disappointed. I think having seen the trailer for this series on American TV when I was last over there this was marketed wrongly and Seth admits this in interviews at comic cons.

I thought Discovery was way better. All the old star trek series are exactly that old and canceled. So happy they went with a serial series rather than episode by episode, that how all the best shows are made: Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Stranger Things etc... Season 2 of Discovery was definitely better than season 1 and the fixed the Klingon thing by giving them hair, which I thought they were fine especially if they are supposed to be TRUMP supporters lol. Fuck that guy!!!!!! I think dark and serious is always better than funny, especially if the funny isn't rated R. Well that's my opinion anyway but to each is own.

  • K C
    K C Aylar önce +1

I don't see how Orville is better than Discovery. I rather say that both are good in their own ways. Anyone who wants to see a good comedy with funny scenes would watch Orville but those who want to see something a bit darker, much more realistic show with drama and emotion would see Star trek discovery. Both shows cater to a group of different audiences. That's exactly what JJ Abrams tried to deliver. Yes, humor has been an important factor of most Star Trek shows but he tried showing a different part of human emotions and that is where the storyline comes in. Star Trek discovery takes place in a universe where the Federation is at war so there isn't room for too much humor while the Orville is based on just adventures and exploration which gets repetitive and predictable. Seth MacFarlane is a good actor but not an experienced one and pulling a comedy show isn't that easy which is a big problem because it's confusing as to what the show wants to be? Is the show a parody, drama or action. Not to mention the failed attempts of unnecessary puns they tried shoving in the show especially when they pulled off the captain's ex knowing that they are going in deep space for important missions and all. The jokes do not work and I definitely wouldn't want someone making a shitty joke while a mother weeps over her dying child which is what is shown in Orville. Episodes have a jarring rhythm of a story and then a joke and so on which gets repetitive and irritating. A good comedy script needs to cater to both of these things equally such as the filmography of Edgar Wright and even Galaxy Quest which is a better Star Trek spoof. If you would have watched it, you would get the essence of how Orville fails in being a comedy show, if that is what it wants to be.

    • LittleRedRhuari RRR
      LittleRedRhuari RRR Aylar önce

The Orville isn't a spoof, it's a love letter. The emotional moments are forced in STD and the SJW propaganda is in your face bad. The Orville delivers on it's comedy great, you just don't have a darker sense of humour unlike most Trekkies. It is both a drama AND action, is it too much to ask for both?

@jigga jawjaw that's not a reason that's a stereotype, shop too much lol. maybe you haven't been around the right black chicks, little waist big butt lol. the black chick isn't even the captain 2 different white guys are for the 2 seasons just fyi.

    • jigga jaw
      jigga jaw Aylar önce

@Mr Queezy Ali TV So you're saying that if the captain was a dude, there couldn't possibly be women on the show? What odd logic. As for being "cute" that's nothing but personal preference. If she's cute that's great I'm glad people are getting enjoyment out of it, as for me black chicks just aren't my thing, never have been. As for women, well there's a lot of reasons I could list but lets just say that society is becoming far too gyno centric and that's due to capitalism. Women have less self control and shop and buy more, a LOT more, than men. So they're being pandered to by the big corporations, for money. Like I said, there's a lot of reasons.

    • Mr Queezy Ali TV

Orville is has humor and a bondence Where Star Trek has to many spoiled fans who criticize to much and never really enjoy the movies Tv shows or what , In truth i like both of them just for pure entertainment they are just stories with no real bases other than to have fun but you don't your boring you keep gripping your Ipod cell phones and you never really look around now that Tv and movies pop up on your personal i love to watch them to i don't walk around a corner and a driver is doing the same and driving at the same time and killing my ass killed It's like many years ago a woman one a state had her grandson to take out the GPS out of her cell phone and she was driving and get into a really bad accident and she drove down into a burnt out forest she quickly got out her cell phone and unknown to first responders they could find her and he kept asking them where are they she didn't know the satellites weren't in her line of sight 8 days gone past before they found her her lags were b=crushed and she was dead Her last words were Where are you ?
Her grandson soon found out if was illegal to remove the GPS they could've found her that much quicker and there are many other storie of this tragedy and they are all in the computers Hmm ?

Yeah the redesign of the Klingon's is the thing I hate most about Discovery. In ST: Enterprise, it shows that the Klingons were once TNG Klingons, then after a genetic virus they lose their ridges and become TOS Klingons, and then become TNG Klingons again.
The fact that Klingons looked different in TOS and TNG was a big problem for a lot of fans, and Enterprise fixed it. Disco just opened up the hole again.
